Cardinal Retz

Jean-François Paul de Gondi, Cardinal de Retz (1613–1679), was a French churchman, political figure and memoirist who played a leading role in the Fronde. His memoirs and aphorisms on power and human nature made him a notable writer of 17th-century France.
