Coretta Scott King (1927–2006) was an American author, activist, and civil rights leader who preserved and advanced Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy after his assassination. She founded the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, campaigned for civil rights, women's and LGBT rights, and worked internationally against apartheid.
