Mencius

Mencius (Mengzi; c. 372–289 BCE) was a Chinese Confucian philosopher whose collected dialogues form the text known as the Mencius. He argued for the innate goodness of human nature and the importance of moral cultivation; the quoted line reflects his emphasis on preserving childlike compassion and sincerity.
