Omar Khayyam (1048–1131) was a Persian mathematician, astronomer and poet from Nishapur known for his work in algebra and for helping reform the Iranian calendar. He is also famous for his collection of quatrains, the Rubaiyat, whose themes include the brevity of life and living in the present.
