Sadako Sasaki

Sadako Sasaki (1943–1955) was a Japanese girl from Hiroshima who developed leukemia as a result of radiation from the 1945 atomic bombing. She became an international symbol of peace and of innocent victims of nuclear war, remembered for folding paper cranes and inspiring calls for nuclear disarmament.
