Sitting Bull (c.1831–1890) was a Hunkpapa Lakota chief and medicine man who led resistance to U.S. encroachment and was a key figure in the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn. He surrendered in 1881, later joined public exhibitions briefly, and was killed during an attempt to arrest him at Standing Rock in 1890.
