Mary McLeod Bethune
Mary McLeod Bethune (1875–1955) was an American educator and civil rights leader who founded the Daytona Educational and Industrial Training School for Negro Girls, which became Bethune-Cookman University. She advised presidents, founded the National Council of Negro Women, and led federal efforts to expand education and employment opportunities for African Americans.
